Intimacy Direction

Intimacy Direction is where artistry meets advocacy in creating safe and respectful theatrical experiences. With a wealth of experience spanning musicals, plays, and diverse settings from schools to professional theatres, I am dedicated to promoting consent-forward practices and empowering all stakeholders in the storytelling process. Intimacy direction goes beyond physical touch; it encompasses the portrayal of intimate relationships in all their complexities.

As an intimacy director, I can offer support on a consultatory basis, providing guidance and expertise to ensure that scenes involving physical intimacy are staged with sensitivity, authenticity, and ethical consideration. Whether it's navigating simulated sex scenes or choreographing gestures as intimate as hand-holding or hugging, I believe in upholding the boundaries of all individuals involved while delivering compelling and convincing storytelling. Through in-person and virtual advocacy and staging, I am committed to fostering a culture of respect, empathy, and creativity in every production. Let's work together to bring your story to life in a way that honors the dignity and autonomy of every participant.

“In terms of intimacy choreography, Jimmy Chrismon is the gold standard. Everything is collaborative and keeps everyone’s safety and boundaries in constant check. What’s more, though, is the artistry he employs. His intimacy choreography elevated my most recent production (In Pieces: A New Musical by Joey Contreras) in ways I can only begin to describe. Instead of blocking mechanical stage movements, he choreographs fluid, poetic moments that make the scenes take flight. His intimacy choreography is thoughtful, compelling storytelling in itself.”
